World mental health day

Today, the 10th of October, is World Mental Health Day.

We need to look after our mental health every day, and I believe that meditation is a great way to help your mental health.

I believe a part of the solution to better mental health is meditation, it is valuable in that it accesses a part of the brain that serves as a motherboard for the human, providing connectivity between the limbic system (the survival mechanism) and the prefrontal cortex (cognitive control functions) of the brain.

The theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day, set by the World Federation for Mental Health, is ‘Mental health in an unequal world’.

From the beginning of the pandemic, its impact on people’s mental health has been unequal. Some of the people struggling the most are those who were already facing considerable challenges – people with long term health conditions, or facing discrimination, or living in poverty or parenting on their own.

World Mental Health Day is also a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.

Mental health will continue to affect all of us unequal in an unequal world, more awareness, more funding, more research and lets not forget, an inclusion in to ordinary health policies are all absolutely necessary measures we need to take as a human race.

World Mental Health Day is also a chance to talk about mental health in general, how we need to look after it, and how important it is to talk about things and get help if you are struggling.
